![]() For most coal carrying railroads, their alternative value is salvage. Rail cars are referred to as yellow-balled when they are sufficiently old or damaged to preclude their efficient operation on long-haul or main line routes. The projected annual output from this mine will be about 2,000,000 tons. In addition, a mechanized open cast mine has come on stream, and a walking dragline will soon be delivered to the mine for removing overburden. A double-drum shearer loader with self-advancing supports is due to be commissioned shortly for faster, more efficient longwall mining to supplement conventional bord and pillar mining. Load-haul-dump machines will be introduced in the near future to ensure higher loading/transport capacities. In addition to the present face machinery, i.e., more » gathering arm loaders/shuttle cars and side dump loaders/chain conveyor combinations, the latest Voest-Alpine AM50 tunneling and roadheading machines have been commissioned for development work. Increased mechanization and the introduction of more advanced mining techniques will help to achieve this goal. By 1983 to 1984, the total output per year is planned to be doubled again. During the past four years production has doubled to 3,500,000 tons in 1978 to 1979. It contains total coal reserves of about 1,132,000,000 tons in an area of approximately 150 square kilometers, and holds high potential for development into a vast industrial center. The Ramagundam area in the South Godavari Coalfield is one of the most promising coal-bearing belts in India. Subsequent to the contract, a product line of increased capacity shuttle cars are now offered to the industry. Above ground and underground demonstrations were conducted under the direction of the Department of Energy. ![]() ![]() Human engineering were key words throughout the design and attention was given to making the operator as comfortable and as safe as possible. Fabrication of a prototype shuttle car resulted from evaluation of specifications and design criteria. The major thrust was directed more » towards improving the carrying capacity. Studies were conducted of mine environments as to their influence on shuttle car design. Methods and technology related to transport of coal via shuttle cars were investigated. In most material handling systems, a concerted effort is made to balance the size of each material carrying component with anticipated maximum load to be transported by any individual component within the system. The objective of this project was to design a shuttle car for use in the underground coal mines that will transport more coal per working cycle without compromising on vehicular performance or personal safety standards. ![]()
